HMRC is warning nearly one million parents with children aged 16 to 19 in education or training to renew their Child Benefit claims immediately or risk losing payments. For those who have not yet extended their claim, Child Benefit payments will cease on 1 September 2024.

Eligibility

Child Benefit continues for children in approved full-time education or training, including:

• A levels, Scottish Highers, T levels
• NVQs up to level 3
• International Baccalaureate

How to Renew

Renewing is quick and easy:

• Use the online service on GOV.UK
• Use the HMRC app
• Scan the QR code on your reminder letter
• You'll need a Government Gateway user ID and password to access these services.

Important Notes:

Even if you've opted out due to the High Income Child Benefit Charge, keep your claim details updated.

The earnings cap for HICBC has increased to £60,000 from April 2024.
