You’ve built a successful business, so what happens next? In this latest Ask the Expert article, Phil Grainger invites business owners to look beyond day-to-day demands and consider the bigger picture.

From growth and succession to exit planning and personal wealth, the decisions you make today are shaped by the future you’re working towards. With an Autumn Budget on the horizon, now is the ideal time to clarify your goals, review your plans, and ensure your business and personal affairs are aligned.

Making Tax Digital (MTD) is no longer coming soon – it’s here. The first phase of MTD for Income Tax is underway, with quarterly submissions already being made by self‑employed individuals and landlords earning over £50,000. Thresholds will drop to £30,000 in April 2027 and £20,000 in April 2028, bringing many more people into the rules.

In our latest article, we explain what MTD means in practice, who it affects, and the three questions we’re hearing most often: whether you can wait to act, how it applies to smaller landlords, and whether you need new software. We also share why preparing early can improve your record‑keeping, cash‑flow visibility and year‑end planning – not just your compliance.
